Valid Health Insurance

It is mandatory to have valid health insurance in order to obtain a residence permit.

Valid Health Insurance Types

General Health Insurance from SGK (Social Security Institution):

  • Newly enrolled students can apply for General Health Insurance by applying to SGK after receiving their Foreign National ID numbers. This must be done within the first three months of enrollment to the university.
  • If new students do not have health insurance and choose to be covered by SGK, they must print and fill out this form when applying for their residence permit.
  • Only students applying for the residence permit for the first time are eligible to fill out the General Health Insurance Application Form. Students who are making Extension and Transfer Applications cannot fill out this form. Instead, they must have one of the following types of valid health insurance at the time of submitting their documents to the university.

Private health insurance:

  • You can obtain health insurance from any private health insurance agency that is valid in Türkiye.

Important Notes

  • When you apply for a residence permit, you must submit an e-signed/signed and stamped/sealed provision document obtained from SGK (Social Security Institution) for General Health Insurance. Alternatively, if you have private health insurance, you can submit your signed and stamped/sealed provision document for that.
  • The health insurance period should cover the entire duration of your requested residence permit. For instance, if you apply for a two-year residence permit, you need to have a two-year health insurance plan.
  • Students who are under 18 or over 65 are not required to have valid health insurance. However, if you have valid health insurance, you must present the documents.
  • If you get General Health Insurance from SGK within the first three months of your studies, you may be granted a residence permit for the duration of your studies. But if you have private health insurance, your residence permit duration will be based on the duration of your private health insurance.
